So I'm trying to get my son Achilles to use the potty.  I've been reading all these articles about how to get them to use it but it all sounds so tidious to me and seems to take alot  of effort of  my part.  Having a 4  month old to take care of  is making it a bit difficult to give so much attention to potty training my 27 month old.

Some parents can train their children by the time they're 18 months; others have wait until they are 3 or even 4!  But I tell you, I'm so exhausted of changing diapers on a 27 month olld who is very active.  And when stuff keeps spilling unto everything in the house I think it's time to get him out of those diapers and unto the loo.

Do any of you moms out there have boys that have been potty trained already?  What was the experience like for you? Any suggestion on how to get my son to use the potty?

  1. Hey thanks for stopping by my blog : ) Looking forward to getting to know you better!
Sorry, I've never potty trained a kid so no advice from me: (

  2. It's not going to work until your child is ready. As tired of it all as you are, if you try to force him before he is ready it will actually take LONGER then if he does it on his own. My advice is to wait until he seems ready to you, not when you want him to seem ready.

  3. Amy, he has the signs of readiness. Some days he is very upset by a wet diaper, he has long enough dry periods. Some days he will even go sit on the potty. But he wont get around to going to the potty when he wants to 'go'!

  4. thanks for stopping by my blog! i do not have any advice for you..for my babe is only 9mon:D good luck though!

  5. Nisha,

Thanks for commenting on my blog! My suggestion would be to wait until he is interested, like Amy said. That's what I had to do with my 2 year old daughter. But there are things you can do to initiate the interest.

I've heard for boys, there is a game
involving cheerios. You put a few in the water of the potty and tell them to try and pee inside the hole of the cheerio. I know it sounds crass, but I know it worked for my mom and with my older brother.

Also, I checked out a video from my local library about teaching children to use the potty. It worked as a really good introduction to the potty for my daughter. We watched it together.

Another thing I did with my daughter was that I brought the training potty into the main area of the house. That way it was there whenever she decided to use it. One day she just plopped down and used it without my prompting. It was great! You have inspired me to post about potty-training my daughter. Check it out at

  6. Jill,

I have put the potty in the main area of the house and he usually ignores it. Occasionally he will sit in it and rock back and forth, I don't think there is any interest to use if for its purpose though! lol I guess I just have to wait it out! I will check out your post soon.
